Accra, Nov. 28, GNA – Liberty Professionals maintained their unbeaten home run with a lone goal victory over Tema Youth in their week-nine Premier League clash at the Sly Tetteh Stadium, on Wednesday.
Striker Ebenzer Assifuah scored the only goal of the match on the 64 minutes to hand the homers their fourth win of the season.
The encounter, which failed to produce any goal in the first half was very close with both sides making clear their readiness to grab the maximum points at stake.
Tema Youth got off the better of the two sides and nearly went up after nine minutes into the half but Nicholas Odjer headed wide after Bright Adjei squared him up from a close range.
The hosts responded 17 minutes on with Richard Antwi, rounding off his marker before crossing to Assifuah, who with only Tema Youth goalie Kofi Mensah, at his mercy headed off target. Mensah, in his quest to save the situation, run into the upright, injuring his leg in the process.
Failing to recover after five minutes, he was replaced by Michael Adjei, who failed to fill the vacuum created by the exit of the former.
Liberty controlled the game and just before half time, Assifuah once again failed with his final delivery, from a three-man move with Emmanuel Adjetey and Kwame Boahene as the other actors, shooting feebly into the waiting hands of Adjei.
Both teams resumed with the same tempo and the homers deservedly broke the deadlock 19 minutes into the half. Midfielder Kennedy Ashia squared Assifuah, and he made amends this time by firing past Adjei for what turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Tema Youth never gave up and matched up their hosts in every aspect and on 72 minutes, midfielder Derrick Appiah was unlucky as his grounder missed target by inches.
Substitute Ernest Baffoe should have finished off for Liberty with a golden chance in the closing stages but relaxed on the ball allowing Adjei to grab the ball off his feet to the dismay of all.
