Kpongu, (U/W), May 9, GNA – The Information Services Department (ISD) has organised a sensitisation programme at Kpongu in the Wa Municipality as part of its regional wide campaign to create awareness in communities about the 2018 Census of Agriculture.
The public education crusade on this year’s agriculture census is in collaboration with ISD, Ghana Statistical Services (GSS) and Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) and will cover the entire Region.
Mr Issifu Duori Benin, the Upper West Regional Director of ISD, explained that the Census was enumeration of households and institutions involved in agriculture and collection of information on agricultural activities.
The objective of the exercise is to provide accurate and reliable information on agricultural activities of the country and make the results available to policymakers and other users to facilitate planning and research.
The information being sought for covers crop production, livestock rearing; tree planting, fish rearing and fish capture, and seeks to help better identify, prepare, implement and evaluate development programmes, particularly in the economic sector.
It will also provide key stakeholders including; researchers, students, industrialists, international organisations and Non-Profit Organisations with complete and reliable agricultural statistics for research, planning interventions, investment decisions and for planning and monitoring purposes.
It will further provide ample information on environmental issues, programmes and projects, that would help planners estimate the true size of Ghana’s agriculture contribution to the economy.
