Koforidua, Feb 10, GNA – Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, on Friday reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthen state institutions to enable them to function without any hindrance.
He said the Better Ghana Agenda was a measure through which the government intended to improve all sectors for national development to reflect in the improvement and conditions of living of the people.
The Regional Minister said this when he inaugurated three fire tenders and handed them over to the Regional office of the Ghana National Fire Service in Koforidua.
He said in all the government had provided 121 fire tenders within three years in office and that the Region was given 14 of the machines.
He appealed to the Regional Fire Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mr Edward Ashong, to put to good use the fire tenders to erase the perception that the fire service had no equipment to work hence its inability to fight fire outbreaks.
Mr Ashong said the tenders would be used for emergency services and that they would be stationed at accident prone areas such as Suhum, Nkawkaw and Koforidua.
He said three new fire stations would be established at Akyem Ofoase, Asesewa and New Abirem whiles the existing stations would have their tenders repaired.
