Chiefs appeal to government not to cede any town in Gomoa to Kasoa Municipality

Gomoa Assin (C/R), Feb. 27, GNA – The Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has appealed to the government not to cede any of the towns in the Gomoa East District to the newly created Kasoa Municipal Assembly.

The Chief, flanked by his divisional chiefs at a press conference at Gomoa Assin, said about four years ago 11 Gomoa communities were ceded to the Agona East District Assembly when that district was created.

“Again it is being rumoured that Nyanyano and other communities will be ceded to the Kasoa Municipal Assembly,” he said and added that even Kasoa is on Gomoa land, a case which is being contested at the law courts.

Obirifo Ahor Ankobea appealed to the government not to regard the peace in Gomoa to mean the weakness of the citizens to the extent of taking away their land at will.

He said Nyanyano held the key to the development of the new Gomoa East District Assembly in terms of population and revenue generation and added “When Nyanyano is taken away Gomoa East District Assembly is crippled.”

The Chief appealed to the government to impress upon the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to pay royalties on the land occupied by Liberian refugees at Buduburam.

He said it was unfortunate that not even a pesewa had been paid to the traditional authorities on land rented for the past 22 years for the refugees.

Obirifo Ahor Ankobea appealed to their Members of Parliament from Gomoa and the District Chief Executives to act as the voices of the people to ensure that Gomoa citizens were not cheated unduly.
