Tamale, Jan. 3, GNA – Professor Nantogmah Yakubu, Chief of Pahazaa, a village near Tamale has commended Alhaji Haruna Iddrissu, Minister of Communications for bringing development to his constituency.
He noted that the Minister had initiated several development programmes such as schools, extension of electricity and creating income generating avenues for the youth and women in his constituency.
Chief Yakubu said this at Pahazaa on Tuesday, when the Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, commissioned the connection of the community to the rural electrification project.
He urged the Minister to devote more of his interventions in the area of education and appealed to him to provide an ICT centre for the school in the village.
Alhaji Iddrisu said last year, the government approved 120 million dollars for the extension of electricity to 300 communities in the country of which 28 were in his constituency.
He said eight communities in the constituency had being connected to the national grid and promised that more would soon be connected.
Touching on the 2012 elections, he said, it would be conducted in a transparent, free, fair and peaceful manner, adding that, nothing unpleasant would happen to Ghana.
He urged the electorate to turn up in their numbers to register when the voters register was opened for registration and also conduct themselves peacefully during the voting day.
Alhaji Harunah Friday, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale said the government would continue to provide the necessary social amenities for the people and urged the community to use the electricity profitably and for income generating activities.
