Ho-Tokokoe road ultimatum unnecessary-MP

Kpenoe (V/R), Oct. 2, GNA – Mr Benjamin Kpodo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, says a two-week ultimatum given to government by chiefs of Kpenoe, Takla and Hodzo over the construction of Ho Barracks-Tokokoe road was unnecessary.

He said this was because work had started on the 19- kilometre road and there is no need for agitations by the three traditional areas.

The chiefs and people of Kpenoe, Takla and Hodzo have threatened to ban all political activities and declare an intensive communal labour in their communities to fix the road should government fail to start work on the stretch in two weeks.

Mr Kpodo at a press briefing on the road, insisted that the facility has been awarded on contract to Vellum Construction Limited and that the firm had started clearing the road.

“He just started work and he will soon introduce himself to the chiefs,” the MP stated.

He said the GH¢ 17.8 million bitumen surfacing project would be done in 15 months to open up the area for rapid development.

Mr Kpodo said the project delayed due to change of funding agency from Government to the Road Fund and gave the assurance that it would be done on schedule.

He said it is not true that the people have been neglected by Government and enumerated education and health projects being undertaken in the three areas.

Meanwhile, Togbe Akoto III, a Divisional Chief of Kpenoe, who joined the briefing halfway, said it is not true that work commenced on the road.

He said clearing of the shoulders of the road by the contractor was just a strategy to win votes and that “the so called contractor” abandoned the site after working for a few hours for two days.

“These are the deceits and we are not ready for that this time. We don’t even know the contractor. They did not introduce anyone to us. He has no signboard. We have not seen any
