Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor says peace is the only weapon that can help people to live in harmony with one another and ensure the socio-economic advancement of the country. He urged all to maintain our peace as we head to the December elections.
This was contained a speech delivered on behalf of the Former President by Mr Adu Acheampong, a Special Aide, to climax the Annual Akwambo Festival of chiefs and people of Gomoa Achiase in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
“We cannot build this community if there is no peace, peace that can help us to undertake meaningful development projects to raise quality living standards,” the former President said.
“Let us see ourselves as one people with a common destiny trying to achieve a common goal and treat each other fairly regardless of our party affiliation”, he said. Former President Kufuor urged the youth and children of Gomoa Achiase to take their vocations and education seriously as education is the key to success in life.
He said education is the only weapon to eradicate poverty in the various communities and called on all parents to support their children’s education. The former President said: “Let us do our best for these children because they are our future and our hope”.
Former President Kufuor and Gomoa Central NPP Parliamentary Candidate donated money in aid of construction of Community Center. Naana Eyiah, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa Central, called on the Gomoa Central electorate and all Ghanaians to support Nana Akuffo Addo’s vision of establishing one district one factory and the pledge to create more jobs and wealth for the youth.
Naana Eyiah said Ghanaians are going through terrible economic hardships and a NPP government led by Nana Akuffo Addo can reverse our current situation. Nana Ofosu Yamoah, Omankrado of Gomoa Achiase, expressed concern about the long standing chieftaincy dispute lingering the town saying it has retarded progress for the past five years.
She called on all stakeholders- the chief, elders and kingmakers in the town, to take the needed steps to end the dispute. He said Gomoa Achiase cannot develop without peace and unity adding that unity and cooperation are essential ingredients that can help build the town.
