Kumasi, Sept 20, GNA – Trustcare Specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre in Kumasi continues to give hope and bring joy to childless and post-menopausal women, yearning for their own biological children.

Over the past four years, it has assisted more than 30 of such women aged between 50 and 60 years, to achieve their heart desire – having given birth to singleton, twins and triplets.
Its latest feat was chalked on Wednesday, September 21, when it delivered a 58-year-old post-menopausal woman, who had never conceived in her 30 years of marriage, of a set of twins.
She conceived after undergoing an Intro-Vitro Fertility and Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) treatment at the facility and was delivered through caesarian operation.
The IVF-ET is a specialized procedure in medicine that is used to help couples who for various reasons cannot get pregnant naturally, to conceive and give birth.
The procedure began in Ghana at a private specialist hospital in Tema in the 1990s.
Mr. Isaac Kofi Adu, Clinical Embryologist at the Centre, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the babies and their mother “are doing very well”.
He said the woman reported to the facility on July, 2015, having ceased menstruation for over 11 years.
On August 2015, she underwent surgical operation to remove a fibroid from her uterus and after three months, she was put on medication to enhance the growth of the womb, which had shrunk due to her menopausal state.
The IVF-ET procedure then commenced on February 2016 and she successfully delivered a set of twins on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
Mr. Adu said one of the girls weighed 2.1 kilograms and the other, 1.9 kilograms, at birth.
He indicated that the facility would continue to support many more childless couples to give birth and bring happiness to their lives.
