Accra, Aug. 2, GNA – The Street Academy, a street-child focused non-governmental organisation (NGO), has organised a five week film training programme for children.

The programme themed: “the Akosua Project,” is an initiative that will enable the children to acquire learning at the end of their academic year through cultural performances and art displays among others.

Ataa Lartey, the Director of the Academy, said the training would equip the children in the art of playwriting, sound technique training, stage directing and acting among others.

Mr Kakra Ankobiah, the Training Officer at Right to Play, another NGO, said currently teachers do not spend much time with children and for this reason they are encouraging the activity based learning initiative to improve the way they teach the children.

He said: “Children like to play [and this] gives them the opportunity to play and learn at the same time”.

Mr Ankobiah appealed to government to help with the staffing and funding of the NGO because they were doing a lot for society.

Mr George Oppong, the Director of the National Arts Centre, urged the children to participate fully in the training.

He expressed gratitude to the Street Academy for the training saying “this is an opportunity to learn and develop your talent for the future and make a living out of that”.
