Female maths and science project commended by Education Director

Savelugu (N/R), July 27, GNA – Alhaji Mohammed Haroun Cambodia, the Northern Regional Director of Education, has commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for establishing a Female Mathematics and Science project in the region.

Savelugu (N/R), July 27, GNA – Alhaji Mohammed Haroun Cambodia, the Northern Regional Director of Education, has commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for establishing a Female Mathematics and Science project in the region.

     Alhaji Cambodia gave the commendation in Savelugu in the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality during the handing over of the project in the Municipality.
     The GNAT designed the Female Mathematics and Science project targets female teachers who are teaching in the upper primary classes in the basic level education sector with the aim of equipping them to be effective teachers as well as serving as role models in their communities.
     The Northern Region was the last in the country too enroll the project last year in the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality where 50 female teachers were selected and training for a year to equip them with the needed Mathematics and Science skills.
      Alhaji Cambodia said it is important for women to receive the best of education saying, “When women are well educated it would bring peace and development in society”.
     “The role of women in the security of the nation cannot be ignored” he said and appealed to policy makers and governments throughout Africa to commit more efforts towards the education of women.
     He expressed concern about the gender parity index in the Northern Region especially from the Junior High School to the tertiary levels and urged teachers and parents to work harder towards reversing the trend.
     Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu, Savelugu/Nanton Municipal Director of Education, commended the teachers for their performance during the training and cautioned them against absenteeism and other negative acts  that would derail the development of education in the region
     Mr Abdul Baba Yussif, Northern Regional Secretary of GNAT, appealed to government to have teachers at heart and pay all entitlements due them.

“Do not to wait until teachers agitate before addressing their problems”, he said.
