CPP elects Northern Regional Executives

Tamale, May 11, GNA – The Northern Regional branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has, at its Congress,  elected a nine-member Regional Executive to steer its affairs for the next four years.

Tamale, May 11, GNA – The Northern Regional branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has, at its Congress,  elected a nine-member Regional Executive to steer its affairs for the next four years.

Alhaji Issah Zoro Abdulai was retained as the Regional Chairman of the party,  after polling 113 votes to beat two other contestants, who polled 106 and 88 votes.

Other executives elected were Mr Alidu Egala, first Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, second Regional Vice Chairman, Mr Nuhu Mohammed, Regional Secretary and Madam Abiba Sayibu, Women’s Organizer.

The rest were Mr Hafix Mohammed, Youth Organizer, Madam Sabratu Mahama, Treasurer, Mr Nayi Alhassan, Education Officer and Mr Hamza Seidu, Organizer.

The election, which was organised in Tamale over the weekend, was supervised by officials from the Electoral Commission,  while representatives of the National Democratic Congress, Progressive People’s Party and the People’s National Convention delivered solidarity messages.

Madam Samia Yaba Nkrumah, National Chairperson of CPP, who swore in the newly elected executives after the congress, urged members to continue to remain faithful to the party to make it a strong political force in the country.

She announced that the CPP targeted to win at least four parliamentary seats in the Northern region,  and urged members to work hard to achieve the target.

Mr Ivor Greenstreet, General Secretary of CPP, urged the winners and the losers to work together to ensure the forward march of the party.

Professor Edmund Delle, a former National Chairman of CPP, called for a strategy to re-brand and reorganize the party,  blending its youth and elderly members to work for victory in the 2016 general elections.

The Congress was attended by some leading members of the party, including Dr Abu Sakara, 2012 Presidential Candidate, and Mr Bright Akwetey, Head of the Legal Committee.
