Ministry of Communications launches e-Transform project

Accra, Nov 24, GNA – The Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Monday officially launched the e-Transform project to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability in selected Government Agencies.

Accra, Nov 24, GNA – The Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Monday officially launched the e-Transform project to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability in selected Government Agencies.

The project, a collaboration between the World Bank and the Ministry of Communication, aims at supporting concrete initiatives to implement ICT-led development strategy and more specifically at generating increased employment in the IT- enabled services.

Dr Omane Boamah mentioned the three main components of the project which include providing enabling environment for electronic governance and businesses; providing support for upgrading national identification system and online verification service for e- commerce industries; and to improve service delivery in priority sectors, like the health and the education sectors.

“It is a 75 million dollar project, supported by the World Bank, and the government of Ghana is grateful to the World Bank for such an initiative,” he said.

The Minister said the project also aims at achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and also to help employ more people in the ICT field, which will automatically cut down the unemployment rate in Ghana.

He said two committees made up of an oversight and technical committees had been set up to take care of the project with, Mr Ato Sarpong,  Deputy Minister of Communications as Chairman.
