Kwahu Abene (E/R), June 3, GNA – The Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr Henry Seidu Darnaa, has announced a capacity training seminar for chiefs on basic law principles governing traditional affairs.

Dr Darnaa said this during his working visit to the Kwahu Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.

He said the purpose of the visit was to have one on one interaction with the chiefs of Kwahu to discuss issues for the good of the chieftaincy institution.

The Minister cautioned people who impose themselves as chiefs to desist from such acts.

Akyemfo  Asiedu Agyeman III, the Adontenhene and the acting president for the Kwahu Traditional Council,     said chiefs helped in local governance and as such the government much recognize and appreciate their efforts.

He said chiefs’ allowances were not forthcoming and this had brought development in their areas to a standstill because the government now takes charge of their lands and timber and only give them 20 percent out of the money realized.

Akyemfo Asiedu Agyeman said part of this money is given to the assembly with no account of what the money is used for and called on the government to include them in the local government system.
