Accra, Feb. 08, GNA – The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) Ghana Battalion 16 (Ghanbatt 16) on Friday donated $2,000 to the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to support the treatment of patients.

According to Lt. Col. Samuel K. Gameli, Commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 16, they had been helping Liberians for a long time and had decided to extend their support to Ghana, hence the donation.

Dr Lawrence Serebour, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, expressed gratitude to the Ghanbatt 16 saying the donation would go a long way in saving Ghanaians suffering from heart diseases.

“I am always happy to hear of the good works being done by the Ghana Armed Forces and wish to commend Ghanaians  for their support to the Cardiothoracic Centre,” he said.

He also expressed worry over the  fact that Ghanaians were suffering from heart related diseases because they failed to pay attention to their eating habits and barely exercised.

“I would advice that people above 40 years should visit the hospital annually for a medical check up just to be on the safer side,” he said.
