Cape Coast, Sept. 25, GNA – Two men who stole an air condition were on Monday sentenced to a fine of GH₵840.00 each or in default, serve six months in prison.
The air condition valued at GH₵1,400.00 belonged to the Biriwa Vocational Training Institute.
The convicts, Thomas Koffie 19-year old trader and unemployed Kofi Awotwe,18, who reside at Biriwa and Cape coast respectively were arrested on suspicion and later confessed to stealing the air condition from the school.
Koffie pleaded guilty with an explanation that he thought the air-condition was spoilt but opened it only to detect that it was in a good shape but the court presided by Mr Ohemeng Mensah rejected his explanation.
Awotwe, however, pleaded not guilty and told the court that Koffie gave the motor of the air-condition to him to sell but once again, the court entered a plea of guilty for him with the reason that he should have asked his friend where the motor was coming from.
Two others, one Mohammed who bought the motor is now at large whilst a fourth person Awudu Issaka, whom Mohammed had ordered to pay the money is on bail.
Inspector Daniel Badu of the Anomabo police station told the court that the complainant Samuel Kwashie Amegbor a manager at the Biriwa Vocational Training Institute, on the morning of September 18 detected the theft of the air condition and lodged a complaint with the police for investigations.
He said during the investigations, the accused persons were picked up and later got to know that Awotwe sold the motor to Mohammed at a cost of GH₵40.00 .
