Accra, Dec. 01, GNA – Thursday’s ‘Special Voting’ which is a prelude to the December 7 poll, is underway as the first votes were cast around 0700 hours at various centres nationwide.
The Special Voting is being organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) for its staff, media professionals, and members of the security forces such as the police, the military, the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Prison Service personnel who will participate in electoral duties on December 7.
According to the EC, more than 127,394 special voters, are expected to cast their votes in today’s Parliamentary and Presidential poll across the country.
Seven candidates are vying for election into the office of President.
They include incumbent President John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Convention People’s Party (CPP) and former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, National Democratic Party (NDP).
The rest are Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Edward N. Mahama, People’s National Convention (PNC) and Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, an Independent presidential candidate.
The Special Voting closes at 1700 hours, but the results will be withheld and declared alongside the main election after the close of polls on December 7.
