Sunyani, Mar 31, GNA – A five-member Regional Technical Committee to oversee the successful implementation of the government’s “Planting for food and job” programme in Brong-Ahafo, has been inaugurated.
Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Regional Minister, is the Chairman.
The other members are Mr. Felix Chaahaah, the Regional Coordinating Director, Dr. Cyril Quist, the Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. Duodu Acheampong, the Regional Planning Officer, and Mr. Paul Kwaku Okrah, a representative of farmers and fishermen.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Minster for Food and Agriculture, who was on hand to perform the ceremony, said the government was determined to do everything to grow the agriculture sector.
The programme, he said would boost the nation’s food security, farmers’ returns and create job for the youth.
The expectation is that it would help to provide employment for about 750,000 young people.
He said they would be focusing on the cultivation of mainly maize, rice soyabean and sorghum, which had shorter gestation period and tended to do well across the country.
Dr. Akoto called for the people to embrace programme to achieve the intended outcomes.
