Asunafo (E/R), Sept 28, GNA -The Acting General-Secretary of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS), Mr Kofi Addo, has advised members of the society not to engage themselves in partisan politics.
He said the Red Cross was purely a humanitarian organization that had no political colour or influence and therefore its members should be conscious of not involving themselves in politics that would dent its image.
Mr Addo said this when he inspected the construction of 20-unit two and one bedroom houses for flood victims at Asunafo in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region.
He said the project was initiated by the Ghana Red Cross and is being funded by the Swiss Red Cross.
Mr Addo expressed satisfaction at the work so far done, especially for the sense of unity among the beneficiaries in offering communal labour and expressed the hope that by the end of November the houses would be handed over to the beneficiaries.
Mr Asumadu Darko, the Regional Manager of the GRCS, said bricks made from local materials were being used for the construction and urged the assembly to adopt the rural housing programme where bricks are being used to provide decent accommodation for the rural communities.
He urged the beneficiaries to champion the cause of the GRSC to rally more people into the humanitarian service and thanked the community for providing labour for the project.
The project is estimated at GHC 240,000 with every unit costing GHC 120,000 and it would benefit 20 families who were severely hit by last year’s flooding, rendering them homeless.
