Physically challenged persons in Talensi District seek support

Tongo (U/E), Oct 10, GNA – A group of physically challenged people in the Talensi District on Tuesday appealed to the government, non-governmental organizations and philanthropists to support them go into petty trading.
     The group said they needed small loans as capitals to set up to enable them meet some family obligations.
     The 15-member group made the appeal when World Vision presented wheel chairs to them to facilitate their movement to attend social activities.   
     Whilst commending World Vision Ghana for supporting them in diverse ways, they said they were still encountering some major challenges including how to make a living and therefore thought such support could bring relief to them.      
     Comfort Banieng, a 38- year-old drinking bar operator, said if she got assistance in the form of a loan facility, she would expand her business to improve upon her livelihood.

 Mr. David Ania, a butcher also expressed similar sentiment.
     “If we are given financial support in the form of small loans and some entrepreneurial skills, it will help us a lot and take those who are begging from the streets”, he said.
     The District Coordinating Director for the Talensi District, Mr Fuseini Alhassan, commended World Vision for the support.
     The District Social Welfare Director, Ms Theresa Ayagiyire, said the Assembly was supporting some of the PWDs in education and that there is a visually impaired student at the University of Cape Coast, one in training college, two in senior high school and 50 at the Gbeogo School for the Deaf.
    Mr Norbert Baba Akolbila, the Area Development Programme Manager of World Vision in charge  of  the Talensi District,  said the donation was made possible through the assistance of World Vision USA.
