---But before then he must be made an example of.
How sad and pitiful are they that follow their leaders sheepishly? This was the first question I asked after listening to Kennedy’s comments on Oman FM and reading all the news reports. No serious radio station would allow such comments on its airwaves, alas, the poor presenter feared to risk his job thereby allowing his boss to talk as long as he pleased, even when he repeatedly said “I declare war”, “we will kill” and many more unspeakable things.
What happened in Odododiodio is unfortunate and unacceptable and has been deemed so by every well-meaning person or organization in the country in a manner that is respectable and socially acceptable. However, the “Honourable” Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong decided to open his radio equipment to the frequency 107.1 Oman FM and started urging NPP supporters on to violence and war. This is treasonous in every sense of the word as has been attested by many well-meaning lawyers.
But the thing that angers me more as a Ghanaian is the impunity and cockiness with which Kennedy passed these unwholesome comments. Did he really expect a pat on the back? I and many fellow Ghanaians believe that the peace and harmonious co-existence we are currently enjoying come second to none and therefore must be protected; Protected from the scum being orchestrated by the likes of Kennedy Agyapong and his cohorts. After all, peace is his own reward and therefore Kennedy Agyapong should know that Ghana, of which he claims to be speaking for, stands to profit nothing from war.
Is this indicative that NPP is prepared to bring war and suffering to the people of Ghana just to protect their political interests? However, if one has legitimate reasons to question certain things with regards to the on-going biometric registration, I think it is their constitutional right to do so but through the appropriate channels. If one party, say NPP believes that NDC or vice versa is engaging in practices that is incongruous with fairness or regulations, then state functions must endeavor to address such concerns immediately otherwise it will not inure to the peace and calm that we are all craving for this year. This is because the ongoing registration exercise is the backbone of this year’s elections.
Atta Akyea who is counsel for Kennedy Agyapong has said that his client only made “verbal expressions” and therefore no violent meanings should be put to them. He also quoted a portion of the constitution as “no amount of words will amount to treason” unless there is evidence. Well, my dear fellow Ghanaian you should have been there when Socrates was being trialed for “polluting the minds of the youth” of Athens. This is what Kennedy has done and will continue to do; polluting the minds of NPP youth to create fertile grounds for war and he must be stopped.
It has also come to light that scores of NPP supporters have stormed and besieged the Police Headquarters and violently demanded the release of Kennedy who has since been in police custody and later BNI’s. The “enchanted” supporters of NPP threw stones at police officers and blocked a major highway whiles burning car tires. This is the result of the words of Kennedy Agyapong. If released, he must learn to guard his tongue with wisdom and caution because there is only one Ghana and we cannot plunge it into turmoil. Not he nor NPP nor NDC can do that, Ghanaians are very discerning and will always loathe violence. We will continue to be united in freedom and justice. God bless our homeland, Ghana.
