Ho, Oct. 2, GNA – Gosanet Foundation, a non-governmental organisation on health, in collaboration with Ho Municipal Health Directorate of Ghana Health Service, is organizing tuberculosis (TB) sensitization workshops for schools in the Ho Municipality.
Dubbed “Kick TB Out”, the foundation is also using football and other social activities to create a platform through which appropriate messages will be conveyed to children to create awareness about the disease.
Mr. Samuel Atidzah, Executive Director of Gosanet Foundation, addressing one such workshop for children of Ho Mawuli Estates Church of Pentecost, English Assembly, described the spread of the disease in the country as alarming and blamed the situation on ignorance.
He said the aim of the workshop was to equip the children with the requisite knowledge and understanding of the disease for them to promote cough etiquette in their homes, schools and the larger community.
Mr. Atidzah said his Foundation was sourcing for funds, campaign materials and technical support from the National TB Control Programme to enable it expand its programme to other parts of the region.
Mr. Winnard Klu, Ho Municipal TB and HIV Coordinator, said though the disease could attack any part of the body, the lung was the commonest organ affected and advised those who cough continuously for two or more weeks to seek medical attention.
