MOFA receives donations towards Farmers Day

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA – The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), on Tuesday received donations from 10 more companies towards this year’s National Farmers Day celebration slated for November 2nd at Abokobi in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

     The donation, which is the second in the series of presentations, is to accelerate preparations towards the 28 edition of the celebration on the theme: “Grow more food: Strengthening Farmer Based Organizations for Market Place Bargaining Power”.

     The companies include Accra Brewery Limited, which presented 220 cartons of assorted drink worth GH¢ 6,620, Allied Home Stores, four tires worth GH¢10, 000, Gbi-Hanjer Ghana Limited, GH¢1,250, and AP Oil and Gas GH¢1,000.

     Unique Insurance Company presented an insurance cover of a house, personal accident Insurance cover for a year worth GH¢ 5,000 and a cheque of GH¢ 2,000 to the National Best Farmer, Wynca Sunshine Agricultural Products Company, Pesticides and machines worth GH¢ 15,640.

     The rest are Quality Life Assurance Company Limited, which presented a one-year life cover of GH¢ 10,000 for the National Best Farmer, GH¢ 6,000 for the second Best Farmer and GH¢ 4,000 to the third Best Farmer, Anointed Electrical Engineering Service Limited, a generator, and Continental Christian Traders, fishing gears worth GH¢ 5,000.

     Weinco Ghana Limited, also donated Sprayers and herbicides worth GH¢ 20,000 and a cheque of GH¢ 10,000, whiles Multivet gave 40 cartons of antibiotics, 10 cages Yoke Pimentel worth GH¢19,245 and a cheque of GH¢ 855.

     Receiving the items, Mr Yaw Effa-Baafi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture in charge of Crops, said government was doing its best to invest more in the agricultural sector, since the sector plays a vital role in the nation’s development.

     He expressed gratitude to the donors and assured them that their presentations would be used for the intended purpose saying government recognizes their support towards the success of the celebration and appealed to corporate bodies in the country to emulate the example of the companies.
