Accra, Oct. 9, GNA – Ghana’s Black Maidens suffered a 0-2 loss to France on Tuesday in their semi final clash of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup underway in Azerbaijan.
Striker Kadidiatou Diani scored in each half to deny the Maidens a historic place in the finals of the global championship.
The French dominated the game throughout and further extended their control when Ghana forward Jane Ayieyam was sent-off in the second half for a second bookable offence.
The Maidens lost the battle in midfield and expectedly went down on 31 minutes after Diani soared above her markers to head home from close range.
Seven minutes from recess, the Ghanaians, the only surviving African team at the tournament were dealt a numerical blow after Ayieyam was given the marching off orders after a second yellow card.
As the Maidens intensified their search for the equalizer, Diani took the game beyond them with the second goal a minute from time added-on.
Ghana will face either Korea DPR or Germany in the battle for bronze on Saturday, October 13.
