Kumasi, Nov. 28, GNA – Asante Kotoko on Wednesday fought gallantly but their efforts were not enough to give them the three maximum points at stake as they settled for a 0-0 drawn game in their day nine Glo-Premier League duel against visiting New Edubiase at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Kotoko, led in attack by skipper Nti Boakye and Ben Acheampong, kept the Edubiase defence busy throughout the afternoon and came close to breaking the deadlock in the eight and 28th minutes, respectively, but missed both chances narrowly.
The Porcupine Warriors in the latter part of the first half stepped up the pressure on their opponents, combining effectively in midfield and attack, and nearly stunned Edubiase in the 40 minute with a well-taken long-range shot from Acheampong which was saved by goalkeeper Iddrisu Saliu.
New Edubiase came into the second half a transformed side as they mounted series of counter-attacks to unsettle Kotoko. Skipper Asiedu Atobrah took advantage of one such surging run upfront, outpaced Kotoko’s Amos Frimpong on the left flank and let go an in-swinger but Bassit Adam’s connection missed target narrowly.
The two sides resorted to a more crunching game as the match wore on, however, Kotoko’s Seidu Bansi should have put the smiles on the faces of the supporters in the 89th and 90th minutes, however, he shot feebly into the waiting hands of the keeper on both occasions.
