Highlife artiste Daasebre Gyamenah has died

Highlife musician Daasebre Gyamenah has died. The musician, according to his manager Papa Loggy, passed away Friday, while he was on admission at the 37 Military Hospital.

Papa Loggy confirmed on Daybreak Hitz with KMJ that his former artiste had not been well for some time now and had been in and out of the hospital.

The late musician’s manager explained to Myjoyonline.com that Daasebre’s wife informed him that the highlife artiste was on admission at the 37 Military Hospital where he died Friday morning.

His body, he added, has been transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital morgue.
Born Abubakar Siddiq, many knew ace highlife singer, Daasebre Gyamenah as “Ahoofe”, a name his fans gave him after the release of his hit song, “Ahoofe”, which literally means beautiful or handsome.

Daasebre was born into Islam. His late mother was a Muslim who died when Daasebre was only five years old.

Daasebre was christened as Kojo Gyamenah and as a royal, he later added “Daasebre” to distinguish himself from others with the same name.

Later on in his life, he adopted the Islamic name in line with his faith.

As a man of the people, Daasebre does not see why Christians and Muslims should be at each other’s throat over doctrinal differences.

And that is why he has separated his work from his religion to enable him to preach peace and morality to people from different religious backgrounds.

Daasebre was preparing to release an album to underscore his love for God and also thank the Almighty for seeing him through the difficult times he faced in the London jail.

He was arrested for allegedly importing 100kg of cocaine into the UK. But throughout his trial, Daasebre maintained his innocence and pleaded “not guilty” to the charges against him. True to his plea, the 12-member jury hearing his case returned a no guilty verdict on Friday, May 11, 2007.
