Kumasi, Aug 30, GNA – Nine-year Kofi Appau, a pupil of the Amangoase Mount Zion Mother School at Tafo in Kumasi, has won the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH)’s ambassador for tuberculosis (TB) contest.
For his prize, he was presented with a certificate, football carrying information on the disease and a “T”-shirt.
The competition, sponsored by the National TB Control Programme, was opened to children between the ages of eight and 12 years and it was part of the campaign aimed at helping to spread the information on the disease.
Children admitted at KATH’s paediatric unit are adequately educated about the disease to share with their friends, school mates and family members after their discharge.
Dr Anthony Enimil, Head of the Unit, said they are taught basic signs and symptoms of TB – chronic cough, weight loss, fever and the loss of appetite.
Added to this is the education on prevention.
Dr Anthony Enimil, Head of the Paediatric Unit, said they settled on the kids because of their good retentive memory, passion and aggressiveness in pushing their agenda through.
