MPs asked to initiate scholarships to cover educational programmes

Saltpond (C/R), Aug. 20, GNA – The Sariki of Saltpond Zongo, Mamah Anomabu V, has asked Members of Parliament (MPs) to ensure that scholarships they offer to students cover the entire duration of academic programmes.
He expressed worry that when scholarships were offered on terminal or yearly basis, beneficiaries lost them when MPs, who initiated the schemes, were out of power, resulting in some students dropping out of school as their parents could not pay their fees.
Mamah Anomabu, known in private life as Alhaji Ahmed Ben Mahmood, Assistant Chief Pharmacy Technician at Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, made the appeal at Muslim prayers to mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr at Saltpond Victoria Park on Sunday.
He appealed to Muslim parents to invest in the education of their children, to enable them to acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development.
Mamah Anomabu commended Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Deputy Minister for the Central Region, and MP for Mfantseman West, and Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive, for contributing to the development of the Zongo community.
Mr Quansah appealed to his colleague politicians not to consider elections as ‘do or die affair’, but to allow the will of Allah to prevail.
He cautioned Muslim youth not to allow politicians to use them to disturb Election 2012, and promised to collaborate with Saltpond Zongo leaders to promote education in the area.
Mr Quansah donated a polytank to be used at the Mosque, and a cow towards the celebration of the Eid-Ul-Fitr.
