Carpenter, 27, before court for robbery

Cape Coast, Aug 8, GNA - A 27-year old carpenter, Patrick Lacle Adjetey, was on Wednesday remanded into prison custody by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast for allegedly robbing one Madam Betty Dankwa of more than GH¢1,500 and other valuables.
     His plea was not taken because he told the court that he could speak Ewe only and the court had to adjourn the case to Thursday, August 23 to engage an Ewe interpreter.
     Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Ockom, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyarko that Madam Dankwa, operated a provisions shop at Eyifua Estate, a suburb of Cape Coast, where Adjetey also lived.
     He said on December 11, 2010, at about 2300hrs, Madam Dankwa closed from her shop and was about to enter her private car that was parked along the street when Adjetey and one other person, now at large, pulled out a gun on her.
    He said the two alleged armed robbers collected her hand bag which contained GH¢1,500 cash, another unspecified sum of money, being the day’s sales, three mobile phones valued at GH¢800, cheque books and other valuable items.
     Chief Inspector Ockom said the two took to their heels but the shouts for help from Madam Dankwa attracted some people living in the neighbourhood to the scene and they gave the culprits a hot chase but were not able to arrest them.
    Madam Dankwa made a report at the Central Regional Police Headquarters in Cape Coast that same night, and on July 2, 2011, Adjetey was arrested at Eyifua when he attempted to rob another person.
     An identification parade organized at the police station on July, 13 enabled Madam Dankwa to identify Adjetey, the Prosecutor said.
     Chief inspector Ockom told the court that the docket would be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office for advice whilst efforts were made to arrest the other person at large.
