Goaso (B/A), Sept 10, GNA – Mr Joseph Boateng, Asunafo North Municipal Best Farmer, has appealed to the management of the cocoa mass spraying exercise to consider opening more gangs for the next season to boost performance.
He said with about 185 acres of cocoa farm at Kramokrom, near Kasapin and considering the number of gangs, more were needed to boost production.
Mr Boateng making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Goaso also appealed to the gangs not to politicise the programme and stressed “Cocoa pests and diseases know no political boundaries”.
He advised the gangs to desist from diverting the chemicals for the exercise since such negative attitudes would defeat the government’s objective of ensuring increased cocoa production.
Mr Boateng warned that anyone caught selling the insecticides would be prosecuted together with the buyer.
He urged the gangs not to charge the farmers whose farms were being sprayed nor diluted the chemicals beyond the required specification.
Mr Boateng advised cocoa farmers to clear their farms of weeds to facilitate the spraying exercise.
